Omega Plastics achieve ISO 9001:2000 accreditation

ISO 9001:2000

In pursuit of the larger slice of the reportedly much maligned European Toolmaking sector Omega Plastics has successfully achieved its ISO 9001:2000 accreditation.

Fundamental to the plans of increasing its market share of Rapid Cut Injection Mould tooling based n the ever impressive time to market the Quality System Accreditation was a result of some internal restructuring and sleepless nights for Facilities Manager Roy Crombie.

“The growth of the company over the last 2 year has exceeded our initial expectations and to support this we need robust systems to catalyse our continuous improvement programme. Sales have grown by a further 18% this year and we have maintained the same high quality rapid response to our customer’s demands, the Quality Accreditation was instrumental in achieving this.”

“We have to move so much quicker these days to offer a bespoke service and the centralised collation, control and access of data is imperative in driving time out of the project.”

Not only do the timelines get shorter but the complexity of injection moulded components is becoming more demanding which is ideally suited to their highly skilled tooling engineers.  As technical Sales Manager Peter Angus explains the service offered by Omega is more than providing a temporary tooling solution but more about how this is transitioned into a volume manufacturing environment without having to re-design the product.  “Lots of our customers are benefiting from not only the high quality rapid tooling solution we provide but also the re-assurance that when they decide to move to a higher volume solution we have already solved the potential problems they would have faced.”

To increase capacity within Omega they have finalised the commissioning of an all electric Fanuc S 2000i 50B injection moulding machine, which will eventually be transferred into the clean room moulding facility.  The cleanroom is further commitment from Omega as they prepare for the next stage of expansion and will support the demand from the medical sector for rapid tooling and low volume injection moulded parts.  The cleanroom will be part of the new office build, plans for which have been signed off and will be complete during quarter two 2009 as production continues to grow in adverse times.

Whilst the general trend in the plastics industry is declining its heartening to hear that despite the current economic downturn there are some examples of success within the manufacturing facilities are becoming less attractive, due to the weakness of sterling and the reduction in contract management resource with the client base.
